How to Book

  1. Send us a message via our booking request form, or send us an email or give us a call. Tell us your preferred travel dates and the room you’re interested in. (View the rooms.)
  2. We’ll check availability and answer any questions. You’ll – usually within a day – receive a personal reply with all the details you need.
  3. Confirm your stay. Once you’re happy with everything, we’ll secure your booking for you.

Please understand, there is no self-catering at Observation Rock Lodge.

Useful Information Before You Book

Here are a few details that may help with planning your stay.

  • Rates are incl. GST, are consistent throughout the season and valid until 30.04.2027.
  • We recommend a 3 or 4 night stay to explore Stewart Island and fully enjoy the lodge — though shorter stays may be possible depending on availability.
  • Taxi pick-up and drop-off from the ferry or flights are included.
  • Check-in is from 2 pm (with prior luggage storage available); check-out is by 10:30 am (luggage can be stored at flights / ferry).
  • Gourmet dinners, the outdoor bath, bush sauna and guided activities are subject to availability.
  • There is no automatic booking system — every enquiry receives a personal reply.
  • For a peaceful experience, there is no TV at Observation Rock Lodge — nature offers the best views.

Cancellation Policy

Due to our small size and advance bookings, the following terms apply:

  • 90% refund for cancellations more than 12 weeks before arrival
  • 50% refund for cancellations 8–12 weeks before arrival
  • No refund for cancellations within 4 weeks

A full refund is given if the dates can be re-booked. We recommend travel insurance for peace of mind.
