Dining

Dining at Observation Rock Lodge is all about slowing down, enjoying fresh local flavours, and ending the day in comfort.

From nourishing breakfasts to beautifully prepared dinners, each meal is crafted with care and served with the same warmth and attention that define your stay. Whether you’re watching the sunrise with your first coffee or indulging in a relaxed evening meal as the sun sets, food is a memorable part of the island experience.

Your day at Observation Rock Lodge begins with a generous, home-made breakfast — fresh, flavourful and unhurried.

Enjoy seasonal fruit, yoghurt and muesli, toast and home-made jams followed by something warm from the kitchen such as eggs, rosemary tomatoes, creamy porridge or pancakes. You’re welcome to enjoy your first coffee or tea in the garden or out on the deck as the morning light settles over the sea.

Dinners at Observation Rock Lodge are slow, relaxed and full of flavour.

After a day exploring Stewart Island, you can simply come home, unwind, and enjoy a beautifully prepared dinner without needing to venture out again.

The Perfect Dinner is private chefing, a relaxed, multi-course meal served in the lodge’s spacious lounge, where you can watch the colours shift over Paterson Inlet as you dine. By the way: Our lounge is the only dining spot on the island with sunset view.

Every menu is created with fresh local ingredients — often including Stewart Island seafood, garden herbs and seasonal produce — and thoughtfully balanced to suit your plans for the evening. It’s a private, unhurried dining experience, crafted especially for lodge guests and available as part of the Lodging Deluxe rate.

A selection of New Zealand and Australian wines and beers is available to complement your meal (additional costs apply).

Dinner at the lodge is available as part of the Lodging Deluxe experience.
Occasionally, a mix of Lodging Deluxe rate / B&B rates might be possible.

“This lodge is a true sanctuary surrounded by nature, and the meals Annett prepares are simply heavenly. She uses fresh vegetables, herbs, and ingredients from her own garden, making each dish taste like a lovingly homemade creation.”
